Laminated (ABL / PBL) Tube Manufacturing Process

  • The manufacturing process of laminated tubes, including ABL (Aluminium Barrier Laminate) and PBL (Plastic Barrier Laminate) tubes, involves a series of highly precise and technologically advanced operations designed to produce high-quality packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, and personal care industries. The complete process begins from printing of laminate rolls and continues through tube formation, heading, foil sealing, capping, and final inspection.
  • Laminate Printing: The first stage of the process is laminate printing. High-quality laminate rolls are printed using advanced printing technologies such as rotary CI letterpress or flexographic printing machines. This stage is extremely critical as it defines the final visual appearance of the product. Multi-colour printing with accurate colour registration ensures attractive branding, sharp graphics, and excellent print quality.
  • Printed Laminate Slitting: Once the printing process is completed, the printed laminate is transferred to the slitting process. In this stage, the large printed laminate rolls are slit into smaller reels according to the required tube diameter and size specifications. Precision slitting ensures accurate dimensions and smooth processing during the tube-making stage.
  • Tube Body making: The next operation is the tube-forming process. The slit laminate reels are fed into an automatic tube-making machine, where the laminate is shaped into a cylindrical form. The overlapping edges of the laminate are then sealed using advanced high-frequency welding to create a strong and durable tube body. Proper sealing is extremely important to maintain the barrier properties and product protection characteristics of ABL and PBL tubes. The tube length is trimmed accurately according to product specifications
  • Tube shoulder heading: After tube formation, the tubes move to the heading process. In this stage, plastic shoulders are formed & attached to the tube body through a heating and fusion process. This process generally involves vertical injection moulding machines. This operation forms the neck of the tube where the cap will later be fitted. The heading process requires precise temperature control and alignment to ensure leak-proof bonding and high mechanical strength.
  • Foil sealing & capping: The next stage is foil sealing of the shoulder mouth. Aluminium foil or membrane seals are applied inside the tube neck using induction sealing technology. This provides tamper evidence, leakage protection, and extended product shelf life. The same machine at the second station performs the cap fitting or capping. Depending on customer requirements, different types of caps such as flip-top caps, stand-up caps, nozzle caps, or screw caps are automatically fitted onto the tubes using high-speed capping machines. The capping process is carefully monitored to ensure proper torque and secure fitting for safe product packaging.

  • The final stage involves quality inspection and packing. Every tube is thoroughly inspected for print quality, sealing strength, cap fitting, dimensions, leakage, and overall appearance. Advanced inspection systems and quality control procedures ensure that only defect-free products reach the customer. The finished tubes are then packed carefully for safe transportation and delivery.
